Chesa Madrisa is one of a kind! The property is beautiful, immaculate and serene. You don't want to leave the house even though there is so much to do around. Hillary is a great host who thinks about everything : from little stools for the kids to use in the bathroom to reach the sink to doggie treats :) 5 stars are not enough for Chesa Madrisa, I can't wait to be back!

Very nice cabin in Big Trees just east of Arnold. Good location for a ski weekend in Bear Valley (approx. 40 mins with chains). The cabin has a great layout, is nicely furnished and is appointed with all one could need, including a generator (which provided uninterrupted electricity during a power outage on a snowy weekend) and kid friendly games and gear. Hillary is a very thoughtful and responsive host. We hope to return!

I love this cabin!

Only a 3 hour drive from Silicon Valley, my family loved our 3-night stay at this mountain chalet. We went at the end of winter; it would be a really fun summer destination. It's clean, cozy, spacious, and tastefully decorated. The living space is upstairs, the bedrooms are downstairs. The kitchen is more than fully stocked with everything in your culinary dreams. The 3 bedrooms are each the equivalent of a master suite: large, wall-to-wall carpeted, with a very comfortable California King bed and an attached full bathroom. Three couples or families could rent the home and each have one big bedroom. There are sheets, towels, and pillows galore (many cabin rentals in this region don't come with bedding.) The architecture is stunning. Tall windows mirror the tall pines to create a living painting. When it started snowing, it felt like we were looking into a snow globe—just magical. Amenities, perks, and freebies abound: -The home comes with free, unlimited parking passes to Big Trees State Park (5 minutes away, $10 value per day) and the local Sno-Parks (closest one is 20 minutes away, $5 value per day). A Sno-Park is an open space to play in the snow. -The home is right on the border of Big Trees State Park; a trailhead into the park is a short walk away. Pictures don't do justice to these dinosaur trees, you have to experience their grandeur in person. -In the summer months, you get free access to two community pools and the recreation center, with tennis, volleyball, basketball, a playground, and more. The house has a big stack of matching red & white striped pool towels. Lake Alpine is 30 minutes up the road. -Williams-Sonoma soap & lotion caddies are stationed at every sink, a different scent representing each handwashing station. Pink Grapefruit, Meyer Lemon, Fleur de Sel, the list goes on. My kids made a game out of trying them all and selecting their favorite; Pink Grapefruit won. -Upon arrival, there is a bottle of Calaveras County red wine to greet you, as well as a carousel filled with Keurig coffee pods. -The house is stocked with board games, puzzles, toys, baby gear, and a Wii. -There's a Sonos wireless speaker for beats and dance parties. -There's a supply closet with every toiletry you might have forgotten: flossers, shave cream, razors, Band-Aids, toothpaste, etc. I could go on and on, but you get the idea—you will want for nothing. If a problem comes up during your stay, Hillary is a very accessible hostess who will bend over backwards to set things straight. Enjoy your stay!

Gorgeous house, wonderful owner!

Gorgeous house! Plenty of space for kids and adults! Kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could ever want and more! Bedrooms were spacious and each had its own private bath. Loved sitting on the couch taking in the gorgeous view. Heated garage was a HUGE bonus since we had 5 feet of snow! The owner, Hillary was on call and very helpful with having the driveway plowed before we arrived and throughout our whole stay! We will definitely stay again!

Stunning floor to ceiling windows, multiple comfortable seating areas, lovely amenities, dog friendly, and close to Big Trees State Park. This house was perfect for our family gathering. We were comfortable and relaxed. This is a fantastic place to stay. The house is spotless, furnished thoughtfully, and extremely well equipped. The location is so peaceful. Hillary really took time to make sure this was a great experience for us. She was always available, helpful, and very nice to deal with. We highly recommend this beautiful home and we will definitely be retuning.

Beautiful, modern home for our family ski vacation

We loved our stay at Chesa Madrisa for our family ski vacation. From the beginning, the owner, Hillary, was so warm and welcoming with her communication about the property. She even sent us an outdoor pic from the home's exterior cam of fresh snow falling the morning we were arriving for our ski weekend. This made everyone extra excited for a weekend of fresh powder on the slopes! These details in Hillary's communication made us feel very welcome at the home. The home has a great layout with the 3 large bedrooms, toy/tv/game space and laundry on the lower level. This worked so well for the kids to have space to play and adults to have space upstairs. The home is well stocked with everything you need, from zip lock bags to Kerig coffee pods to kids toys/games/Wii machine. The bedrooms are big and king beds very comfortable. We had 3 couples and young kids so it was nice to all have our own bathrooms. The home was very clean and had linens and towels provided. This home did not feel like a rental home but like you were at a friend's home with everything you needed. The house is about a 30-40 minute drive to Bear Valley and 15 minutes to Arnold so it was convenient for skiing and for groceries/restaurants/gas in Arnold. We can't wait to come back to Chesa Madrisa in the warm weather and explore all the warm weather activities around like the Big Trees State Park or Alpine Lake. Thanks Hillary for a great vacation at your home! We would love to come back and stay again!

Great house for get-away. Great wilderness views from living room, 20 minutes to Bear Valley, lots of room. Kitchen supplies made making meals easy. Great enclosed yard for our dog too. We will stay here again.

Our family had the most wonderful stay at Chesa Madrisa! Hillary was so helpful in the weeks leading up to our trip and gave us lots of excellent recommendations for things to do and see in the surrounding area. And the house is spectacular! Our two eldest children (5 and 3) were entertained for hours by the amazing toy cupboard (an enormous treasure trove stacked to the rafters with games, books, trains, art supplies and more...) which in turn allowed the adults to properly switch off and enjoy the beautiful surrounds. The position of the house is perfect, situated amongst stunning trees, and it was so peaceful watching the light filter through the branches into the main living space throughout the day. We would highly recommend to anyone with children as young as ours looking for somewhere to stay, but in truth I can't see who this property wouldn't appeal to - it is a truly special place, and we will definitely be back.

WOW! Chesa Madrisa is an amazing place to stay. My family and I spent Thanksgiving here and our stay couldn't have been better. The modern and updated cabin exceeded our expectations in every way. From the exceptional communicative host, to the stocked pantry (with Le Creuset, no less!), to the bottle of wine left for us, we were so impressed in every way. Details: the kitchen is large and completely stocked; we were able to cook an entire Thanksgiving dinner without having to bring our own tools. The host even checked to make sure there was a turkey baster for us! The living room is large, inviting and has huge windows looking out into the pines. The room is further enhanced by the cozy dual-sized fireplace, which was a popular spot for the those who wanted to snuggle up with a book. We all liked that the living room was not obstructed by a TV but, instead, was separated from another area that had a TV and another sitting area. Downstairs there are 3 large bedrooms, each equipped with its own bathroom (and heated floors)..not to mention every sink has William & Sonoma hand soap and lotion. No details spared here. Kids: we had two little ones with us and they were excited to find a toy room just for them. Entirely stocked with newer toys and games. The home is very safe and kid-friendly. Lastly, I am a clean/germ freak and I was so, so happy that this home was immaculate. We could not have been more pleased and the only disappointing part of our stay was having to leave. We cannot wait to come visit Chesa Madrisa again. Thank you so much Hillary!
